Welcome to Balloon Poodles.com
This website, although still in development, is intended to be a place to develop ideas and expand knowledge about not only esophageal cancer, but how to deal with major surgery in general on the personal level.
Martin was a 48 year old male who had never smoked and drank only socially. There was no real reason for him to contract esophageal cancer ... except for the serious case of Barrett's Esophagus (which mortified his gastro doc when it was discovered) which had been lurking about for 30 years.
Based on emails the author sent to friends and family during the ordeal, the book is not only a well written personal memoir of the experience of fighting and surviving esophageal cancer (a disease with a 95% mortality rate over 5 years), but a guide for anyone facing the prospect of major surgery.
Filled with the author’s humorous views of circumstances as they occurred, this book is an easy, yet thought provoking read for anyone facing a trip though the mine field of modern medicine and surgery.
Inside the book, you will discover: ¨ Authoritative information on related conditions and procedures from top U.S. experts and sources; ¨ The author’s personal experience information no Barrett’s or esophageal cancer patient should be without; ¨ Wide ranging lists suggesting what you should and should not do before, during and after surgery; ¨ How and why the author took charge of his own medical care over the objections of some family members and friends; ¨ Why the book is titled Balloon Poodles; ¨ Unexpected twists and turns as they develop on the road though this adventure; ¨ The personal experiences associated with the seemingly countless pre-surgery tests — PET Scan, CT Scan, etc.; ¨ Support websites and resources; ¨ And much, much more!

“Balloon Poodles is the first book to deal with the complexities of an esophageal cancer diagnosis from the patient’s point of view. It is informative, well written and very reader-friendly. I can highly recommend this book to patients, family and friends facing esophageal cancer, Barrett’s or major surgery in general.”
